F1 has gone through huge sets of rules changes this year. These changes are made to make the sport even more competitive. From the structure of the car to the new 18-inch wheels, a lot changed. In addition, FIA introduced the budget cap last year. They further trimmed it to further $5Million to $140Million this year.
Talking about the need of the changes, the former Brawn GP owner conveyed, “I think that’s unavoidable, but I also think it was unavoidable to go that route. I think where we were, it was just going to get worse and worse. We had a little hiatus with Covid because the teams were constrained in a way with what they were able to do. They had to use the same chassis and various other parts but there’s no doubt the cars would just continue getting worse and worse and worse.”

What are the changes F1 to undergo?
We are to see the sport change in a major way. The sport hasn’t seen such drastic changes post the Hybrid era. To talk about one of the most significant changes, the cars now have more floor effect. F1 has brought in such changes to allow the cars follow each other more closely. The ‘dirty air’ will now have minimum effects when one car will be following another.
The 2022 challengers also have two long underfloor tunnels to create a ground effect. Moreover, there were changes in the front wing and rear wing. The structures of the wings changed to some extent. Most importantly the tires got bigger. They changed from 13 inches to 18 inches with new winglets put in place. As per the governing body, they’ve introduced all these changes to make the sport even more competitive in the seasons to come.
