Lewis Hamilton was honored with a knighthood for his achievements in Formula One at the end of last season. The Mercedes driver mentioned it came as a bit of a shock to him when it was revealed that the royals would give him a knighthood.

In a recent interview, he mentioned what he did on the day that he received the honor. Lewis also spoke about his experience of bringing his mother to the ceremony at Windsor Castle.

“The actual day I went to the palace to get the award, I took my mum with me and I got an MBE, so there are different steps that you can take. Many years ago, I got my MBE. I took my dad and my step mum and that’s where I got to meet the queen for a second, which was pretty amazing.”

“Taking my mum there, she looked amazing, and I sent her to the shopping and she got all done up. She looked incredible. But I just remembered when we walk in she was on my arm and we had to separate. I had to do the kneeling and everything and swords on my shoulders and I just looked to my right and she was just standing there with the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. So that was for me one of the most special moments I have ever experienced,” said Hamilton.

Can Lewis Hamilton win his eighth world championship?

As reported by Sky Sports, it was announced that Hamilton would get his knighthood after he had won his 7th world championship. It would have been a perfect occasion for him to get the award if he had won his 8th world championship last season.

But in the end, Max Verstappen beat him in the last lap of the 2021 season finale to snatch the title away from him. Including the 2022 season, the British driver has 2 more years on his contract, which means he has two more tries to get his 8th title. But seeing W13’s current performance, it is a big question if we can win it in the next two years.
