Football is the most followed sport in the world and has legions of fans everywhere. It might just be the only sport in the world that is looked upon so highly by athletes from other sports, and one of those sports is F1. F1 world champion Max Verstappen too is a big football fan.

He took to his Instagram stories to share a picture with FC Barcelona player Sergi Roberto. We can see him swapping jerseys with the Barcelona player and giving him his Red Bull one ahead of the Spanish GP in Barcelona.

“Thanks a lot,” wrote Verstappen after swapping jerseys with Roberto.

It is certainly odd to see Verstappen holding a Barcelona jersey, as he is a diehard PSV Eindhoven fan. He also took shots at his rival, Lewis Hamilton, when the Brit showcased his intentions of buying Chelsea FC.

Max Verstappen talks about his love for football while taking shots at Lewis Hamilton

Alongside his friend and tennis star Serena Williams, Hamilton had recently put up a bid to take over Chelsea FC. Although the deal didn’t go through, Verstappen found it a bit odd that Lewis, a die-hard Arsenal fan, would want to buy a rival club. The Red Bull driver mentioned that, as a PSV fan, he would never buy Ajax, as it would be disloyal to his club.

“I’m a PSV [Eindhoven] fan and I would never buy Ajax. And if I was going to buy a football club, I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage,” said Max.

“I thought he was an Arsenal fan? And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that is quite interesting. But everyone does what they want with their money, so let’s see what comes out of it,” said the world champion.

It is certainly interesting to hear Max’s passionate comments on football. In terms of being a die-hard fan of a club, he is correct in pointing out that buying a rival club would be disloyal to your favorite club.

But it is more fascinating to see him with a Barcelona jersey being a PSV fan. Hopefully, we will soon see Max’s football skills on the field, as he will participate in a charity football game alongside other F1 drivers.
