Netflix released the 4th season of their Drive to Survive documentary series on the 11th of March. Although most fans were excited to relive the thrilling 2021 season through the show, there were also some negative views regarding the show’s portrayal of rivalries. Max Verstappen in particular went one step beyond, as he opted to not take part in the series. He believes the show ‘fakes rivalries’.

Meanwhile, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed he will have a conversation with Verstappen regarding his participation in the show. The Italian believes that Netflix’s initiative attracts new audiences and boosts the sport’s viewership. Hence, the Dutchman’s participation in the show is important, according to him.

Stefano Domenicali will have a word with Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen revealed that he will not take part in Netflix’s Drive to Survive. He believes the show exaggerates rivalries and does not capture the exact happenings. F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali recognizes Verstappen’s point of view. However, he cannot question the growth F1 has achieved because of the show. Hence, the Italian revealed he is going to communicate with Verstappen and work a way on getting him on the show.

Domenicali has said, “If a driver refuses to participate because he does not agree with how he is seen in the series, we will talk about it constructively. Tell us how you want to be seen, because we’ll find a way.” The Italian will hope he can convince Verstappen to make a return on the show.

Netflix’s Drive to Survive is a documentary series that offers the fans a behind-the-scenes view to the F1 world. It attracts new viewers and builds up the excitement around the sport. However, many, including Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, have criticized the show and agreed with Verstappen’s point.

Earlier, Max Verstappen revealed the reason he is not willing to participate in the show. He conveyed that the show twists rivalries and, as a result, he did not give any interviews. However, the main plot revolved around him and Hamilton, so the fans were disappointed to not see him in the series.

Although he didn’t participate, the Dutchman did watch the latest season of the show. And he once again stated his point on faking rivalries and cited the show’s inaccurate portrayal of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo‘s rivalry as an example. He said, “Lando and Daniel are two great people I know – they have really great characters and immediately at the second episode it looks like they are not very friendly to each other, and for me that’s not correct and that’s why I’m also not a part of it.”

The Drive to Survive series has certainly enticed new audience to watch the sport. The growth of Formula 1 is only good news for the motorsport community. Surely, Verstappen’s participation in the series will boost the viewership.
