Aston Martin Racing disappointed many fans with their underwhelming season. After Lawrence Stroll promised to challenge for the championship last year, the new rules & regulations seem to have caught the Silverstone team off guard. However, Fernando Alonso replacing Sebastian Vettel might make things interesting the next year.

In an old interview last year, Lawrence Stroll admitted that the cost cap might play into the hands of Aston Martin and bridge the gap at the top. The Billionaire mentioned 5 important factors needed to build a championship-winning team.
Stroll said, “I always say you need five things to win: passion, leadership, and vision, which I bring; the best people surrounded by passion and vision; then it’s providing those people with the tools and the process in order to be world champions.”
“When I took over the team that was once Force India, they did more with less, finishing fourth on a third of the budget,” the Canadian added. He further continued, “This nucleus of people that we already have in the factory has been able to do more with less. This budget cap plays right into our strengths.”
However, Aston Martin struggled for the majority of last season and eventually lost out P6 to Alfa Romeo on the ultimate day. Despite finishing level on points, the Swiss team won P6 because Valtteri Bottas finished P5 in Imola (higher placed finish in a race amongst the two teams).
Mike Krack defends Lawrence Stroll
Aston Martin’s team principal Mike Krack has had a tough start to life at the Silverstone outfit. However, his team is quickly getting back into the groove. The Luxembourger also believes that they often portray their billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll as the villain of Formula 1.
Krack said, “He is often wronged. He gives us a free hand and doesn’t interfere every 10 seconds. The fact he wants an update on the team once a week is completely legitimate in my eyes.”

He further spoke about the best way to deal with him, “To be honest with him. Always describe exactly how and why the situation is right now, without beating about the bush.” [Translated from Google]
Krack also praised the 63-year-old’s passion and involvement in the Aston Martin team. He also had no problems with Lawrence’s ambitions.
