It took less than a month for Nyck de Vries to secure a seat in the premier class after showcasing his talent. The Dutchman has earned everyone’s respect from his debut race. Now, because of his performance in the said race, there are high expectations from De Vries.
Before the new season even begins, AlphaTauri’s boss Franz Tost has outlined his expectations from the Dutchman. Without keeping you guessing, the expectations are high, which is mostly the case in the demanding world of F1.

During the Japanese GP press conference, when asked about expectations from De Vries, AlphaTauri’s boss gave an honest answer.
“I expect a lot from Nyck because he has experience from the racing categories where he won races and championships and therefore once more if the car works, I think that we will have a successful year,” he said.
Nyck de Vries did not make the jump from F2 to F1 despite winning the championship in 2019. He practiced his trade in Formula E and became a world champion. Not to forget the time he spent in the Mercedes garage. All these factors add to expectations surrounding De Vries for his rookie season.

So even though De Vries will be entering F1 in 2023 as a rookie, there is a lot of experience under his belt. However, the AlphaTauri boss understands the driver is only as good as the car.

The former racing driver turned team principal understands there are always limitations in F1. The biggest limitation for a driver is usually the car they’re driving.
“The guidance of the team depends also on the performance of the car. If we have a good car, it’s easy for both drivers. If we have problems in the car, then I think that it will not be so easy to sort out everything,” he said.
