Former F1 driver, and pundit at Channel 4 sport, David Coulthard shared his piece of mind recently. David is in support of the F1 fans and is actively being their voice to address a much-needed message.

Last weekend, the wet race at the Japanese Grand Prix ended with a lot of drama. Even though Max was crowned the World Champion for the second time, reaching this decision took a rather confusing debate. Fans frantically browsed through the rules to understand what the outcome means.

The situation was so confusing that even Max Verstappen did not know if he was the world champion whilst he was giving his post-race interviews. The confusion based on the point system lost the focus of many viewing the race. David Coulthard pointed out that this doesn’t reflect well on the sport. And the way things went down, shouldn’t have happened.

David said, “Yes, what happened after the race keeps people engaged and gives us all something to talk about. But, in pure sporting terms, it’s bad.”

“Sometimes we have been waiting hours to get a result from the stewards. I know there has to be a fair process.”

“But people switched off their televisions and computers all around the world last week and went to bed before the official result was announced.”

“That can’t be right,” he concluded.

David Coulthard praised the new regulation and rules that the FIA introduced this season. However, there is an issue that needs to be looked at.

He explains that the new rules give the drivers the opportunity to battle closely. However, he points out that there is a disharmony of sorts amongst different aspects of the sport. This would end up being catastrophic to the sport in the long run.

He said, “I think there is still a disconnect between the teams, the commercial rights holder Liberty, and the FIA. It still doesn’t seem as if that three-way relationship is as harmonious as it could be.

“And better communication among them is the way to serve our fans,” he exclaimed, in conclusion.
