Lewis Hamilton‘s impact outside F1 transcends his achievements on track. His efforts have always had a spiritual element that gave him the power to conquer any challenge posed during his quest to conquer F1. “I feel God has his hand over me,” he said in 2018, when was a 4-time champion. After Hamilton’s historic British GP victory on Sunday, former Ferrari manager Peter Windsor has shed more light on this side of the Mercedes driver’s life, revealing how he has been so spiritually connected and optimistic since his debut in F1.
Lewis Hamilton’s last victory was at the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP before that year’s Abu Dhabi GP destroyed him mentally. In 2022, he shared the extent of the mental and spiritual work that went in daily to get back to the grid. His Silverstone victory after this agonizing 945-day winless streak is a testament to his mental processes. Peter Windsor believes this is the main reason Hamilton has stayed at the top of his game forever.
“I think he’s very strong spiritually,” Windsor said on Cameron F1’s YouTube channel while noting, “When I was doing the post-race interviews for F1, I was there when Lewis won his first Grand Prix in Indianapolis. I was thinking of ways to try to get him to talk about his spiritual strength and how much it means to him without doing it in a crass way, which we often see after big sports events,” he added. But Windsor’s experience when conversing with Hamilton about this topic was beautiful.

“But with Lewis, it was never crass,” the 72-year-old said, adding, “It was always, ‘I just feel very, very lucky to be doing what I’m doing, and I’d say a little prayer every day to thank god for what I’ve been given. I just want to make the most of it.’ And I think that little phrase has driven him throughout his career. And what we saw yesterday was nothing more than the exemplification of that.”
Throughout his career, the 7-time champion has never been shy of sharing his views on spirituality and religion. His belief in the power of prayer has also powered him to maintain his calm and achieve 104 F1 victories.

Lewis Hamilton’s commitment to always praying before eating
At Silverstone on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton marked the 30th instance of a British driver winning the British GP. Bagging his 9th victory on home soil, the Ferrari-bound driver broke the record for most victories at one circuit. Such success stems from making time for the small things in life, like praying before eating.
“You have to make time for things and every morning I have breakfast and before I eat, I pray,” Hamilton told the Independent in 2018, where he also remarked, “Every time I eat, actually, I pray. So, whether it’s a couple of seconds, a minute, or whatever you are praying for, take that moment. Everyone is talking, and I say, ‘Sorry, one second’ and you just make the time.”

It is because of such grounded habits that the Briton has sustained his career into the late 30s. Next year, the 7-time champion will be 40 and still gunning for race wins and his record-breaking 8th championship. What’s your take on this habit of Lewis Hamilton? Share in the comments.
