It was only a couple of years back that Logan Sargeant debuted in F1. The American heartthrob signed with Williams last year as Nicholas Latifi’s replacement. However, throughout his two seasons with the Legacy team, he scored only 1 Championship point. On the flip side, Sargeant has cost Williams millions in damages as he is prone to on-track accidents. All of this points to his possible ousting once his contract runs out. And Peter Windsor believes he knows just the right guys to replace him in 2025.
As the first ten F1 races have already happened this year, the time is ripe for the silly season to start. Currently, there are 7 seats up for grabs in the various participating teams, and Sargeant’s seat is one of them. Williams has not renewed the American racer, and speculations say they are already looking into other options. Carlos Sainz‘s name has come up several times as a possible replacement for Logan Sargeant. However, reports suggest the Spaniard has stalled his decision for a long time, prompting Williams to pull out of their chase after him.
Ex-Ferrari manager Peter Windsor has come up with some recommendations. He shared a screenshot of the lap times from a 2017 British Formula 4 race which was held at the Brand’s Hatch (Indy) circuit. It showed the records of British racer Ayrton Simmons at the top, followed by fellow Briton Billy Monger (who no longer races because he suffered a collision that led to the amputation of both his limbs). The chart also showed Jamie Caroline’s timing as Windsor mentioned Caroline had won the F4 ’17 series in Britain.

Logan out-qualified Alex A on Fri for the sprint but, re F4 results below, I wonder how Ayrton Simmons would have gone in a Williams? And look at Billy B, just before his Donington accident. After showing the table, Windsor shared a question. He wondered aloud what would have happened if either Simmons, Monger, or Caroline took Logan Sargeant’s seat in his stead. Despite Windsor sharing these names as his recommendations for Sargeant’s seat, all the racers are currently working elsewhere. Simmons is into Endurance Racing, Caroline is performing at the British GT Championship while Monger has left racing to do commentary. So, if these names don’t work out, what other options remain for Williams?
Old and new F1 racers banking on a Williams seat for 2025
Despite its current position at the back of the grid, there is a chance Williams can rise to prominence once the new set of rules of F1 2026 arrives. Thus, several racers are eyeing Logan Sargeant’s seat at Williams. Among them, Mercedes reserve driver Mick Schumacher and Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz are the most famous names.

After being ousted by Haas in 2023, Schumacher has been relegated to a reserve role with the Silver Arrows. Even though he has signed up for Endurance Racing with Alpine, the son of the 7-time F1 Champion would want to make a comeback to the pinnacle of motorsports with Williams.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz has announced his departure from Ferrari next season. Despite reports claiming Williams is no longer pursuing Sainz, there is a chance the Spaniard might still go there. The other names who might become the British team’s employees next year include Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen, Nyck deVries, and Daniel Ricciardo.

The demand for Williams’ seat shows how several drivers will be out of their jobs the next year unless they find themselves a team soon. Whatever the Wantage outfit’s choice might be, it is almost certain that Logan Sargeant will lose his opportunity to represent America in F1.
