Mexico City Grand Prix did not turn out the way Mercedes had hoped. The German team surprised everyone by taking a shock 1-2 on the grid after Saturday Qualifying. But could not capitalize on that after Verstappen passed both Mercedes cars in Turn 1. Former F1 driver Timo Glock has mentioned that the team cannot rely on Valtteri Bottas anymore. Glock stated that Bottas despite being in pole position did not support his teammate Lewis Hamilton. he also suggested that Sergio Perez is a better wingman right now as compared to Bottas.
The Finn would leave the German team after the season. Glock believes that from now on Bottas might not show his unconditional support to title-challenging Hamilton.

Valtteri Bottas no longer has the motivation to support Lewis Hamilton: Timo Glock
As reported by the Sky. Sport. De, the German driver had previously played a part in helping secure Lewis Hamilton his first world championship. But he stated that the Alfa Romeo bound Finn no longer has the motivation to help the Brit in 2021.
“Lewis Hamilton has a good car, of course. But that’s not good enough to beat Red Bull and Max. In my opinion, the problem with Mercedes is that Valtteri Bottas no longer has the motivation to continue to give Lewis unlimited support.” said Glock.
“It was obvious to me. Sure, it’s always easy to say from the outside. But I think they discussed the strategy relatively clearly at Mercedes in advance and went through umpteen scenarios for the start. Valtteri focused more on Lewis in that case, which I didn’t understand.

I think his job had been clear to do everything he could against Max to pave the way for Lewis to be ahead on the turn. That didn’t work at all. I find it hard to believe that Mercedes can still rely on Valtteri. Red Bull has a clearer way of betting on Sergio Perez. He showed that. He got his heart out to help upfront and take the points away from Lewis.” said the former F1 driver.
With just 4 races to go, Mercedes do need Bottas to contribute as much as possible to beat their rivals. The team would look to bounce back in Brazil and get back on winning ways.
