Michael Schumacher’s era at Ferrari is arguably the best glory days for Ferrari as they won consecutive drivers and constructors championships with the German at the seat. Former F1 Boss hailed Michael Schumacher’s specific way of operating and suggested that it is the only way for Charles Leclerc and Co. to rescue their sinking ship. What was this praise and how will it help Ferrari?

Ferrari hasn’t won a championship in over a decade and a half. Be it the driver’s championship or the constructors. To top it all off, the strategic errors made by Ferrari make it all worse. Charles Leclerc lost the chance to fight for the championship last year for the same reason. 2023 hasn’t been any better with Ferrari far away from Red Bull and struggling to fight for P2 in the championship. Frederic Vasseur’s appointment doesn’t seem to be making much of a difference.

Amid all this, former F1 Team Owner Eddie Jordan used Michael Schumacher’s example as he explained how he would fix Ferrari. He talks about how Schumacher brought loads of capable people with him to Ferrari that helped turn around the team and those who weren’t fitting the team left. He suggested that Ferrari does have great people but just needs to fix the finer details.

According to the Formula for Success Podcast, Eddie Jordan said, “I would create without doubt something the way that Michael created. Michael Schumacher brought Rory Byrne, Pat Simmons, Jean Todt and they were the nucleus. And he did also have our previous guest – Stefano Domenicali.” He then added, “So I’m saying to Ferrari, you have absolutely in my opinion slightly got the pecking order wrong because you’ve got brilliant guys, brilliant engineers who are able to design great engines, design great cars but it’s the finer details that make the race car a winning car.”

Advising the kind of people that Ferrari needs he suggested that Ferrari needs to appoint people who have risen up through the ranks and have the experience of working in lower classes like F3 and F4 as they’ll have the inner knowledge will be able to recall what they did when things happened in those classes and won’t make the silly mistakes. Jordan further advised what was wrong with the Philosophy at Ferrari.

Frederic Vasseur earlier this year suggested that it of difficult to hire from other teams for Ferrari as the culture is very different in Italy and Ferrari and not everyone can adapt to it. However, Eddie Jordan suggests the philosophy isn’t the right one at Ferrari as they take 1.5-hour Lunch breaks. He suggests Ferrari needs to get back to what the philosophy was back in the days when they were winning. Get back to how they functioned back in the glory days.

According to the podcast, Eddie Jordan said “And they’re brilliant at this but they’re different. They stop for lunch for an hour and a half. Just the whole philosophy of the place is ufff. Don’t get me on my high horse. Remember how they got very good. They got very good when John Barnard designed the car for them. But it was designed & made in Britain. Most of the car, 90% of the car was made in England and they need to start thinking about going back to that.”
