Ferrari is a team that has seen its fortunes change multiple times over the decade. It was a tumultuous time for the team in the last couple of years, with the dismal 2020 campaign fresh in everyone’s memory, especially Charles Leclerc.

The Monegasque made his debut for Ferrari in 2019. He enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign and finished P4  in the driver standings ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

The 2020 season saw the Maranello outfit present one of their worst cars in the hybrid era as they were reduced to a midfield team. However, 2021 saw them start their revival journey. So far, 2022 sees them top both the driver’s and constructors’ standings.

Charles Leclerc speaks about finding motivation in tough times

This season so far has been stellar for Leclerc and Ferrari both. However, the last few seasons were a struggle for both the Monegasque and the Prancing Horse. They went from challenging for the title in 2018 to finishing P6 in 2020.

Leclerc was asked about how he kept his mindset intact and focused during the Ferrari slump. He said, “I mean it’s difficult, of course you got times when you feel down, but every time I felt down, I just thought about 2019 and how it felt to win and that gave me the extra motivation.

Leclerc also gave a testament to the mentality of the team. He said, “To just get back at it and work harder than ever to think about the good the days that will be there after, if we do a good job and I think everyone had that mentality in the team. I never lost faith and motivation.”

The team’s faith and hard work have paid off with the F1-75, arguably the quickest car on the grid this season. It has helped Charles Leclerc top the driver’s standings 27 points ahead of Max Verstappen. However, Leclerc will be hoping for redemption in Miami this weekend after a disappointing outing in Imola.
