We’re back and racing again after a long summer break with the 2022 Belgian GP past us. Although the break is an annoying aspect for the fans, the teams really appreciate the summer break. They dwell deep and try to unearth the issues holding them back during this break. We’re sure Mercedes utilized the summer break for exactly that.

However, the team, back at Brackley, made little headway compared to the front-running rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. The Belgian GP was reminiscent of the poor first half of the season. Lewis Hamilton, unfortunately, crashed out and George Russell managed a P4 finish. However, the pace in qualifying was proof enough that there is still a lot of work to be done on the W13.

Although, no matter how much work is put into the W13, the Silver Arrows can only aim for second in the constructors. The poor results have accumulated and now the Mercedes team is surrounded by a lot of negativity.

These are the thoughts of a former two-time world champion, Mika Hakkinen. He said, “Well, the problem is because everything is negative”

“So when the driver is finishing the Grand Prix and goes in front of the media, it’s about the negative.”

“So it’s constant negativeness and that’s burning energy and that’s not good. It doesn’t matter how the driver tries to change that, to be positive, but you cannot.”

“So it’s a very difficult situation,” he concluded.

Mercedes has been the most dominating team of the past decade. Keeping that in mind, the Flying Finn is not counting the team out.

Mika Hakkinen puts his faith in Mercedes for 2023

The current season is effectively and frustratingly over for Mercedes. However, the former world champion believes the Silver Arrows will be better in the 2023 season.

He said, “The team knows they have a problem and they are very disappointed with the car they built, but they are focusing for next year already.”

“I believe they understand their problems what they have with this car but they cannot change the car, they have to design a completely new car.”
