The Canadian GP has made the much-awaited day finally present itself. Ferrari’s horrible run of losing owing to a string of botched-up race strategies finally came to an end. Ferrari finally found something that worked perfectly for them, considering the given circumstances. And owing to a brave strategic call, Charles Leclerc benefitted, boosting him into the Top 4.

Over the last couple of years, Ferrari has been known to be clumsy when it comes to race strategies. Though that is not what fans expect from such a legendary team, they have come to live with it. But they proved their caliber with the unconventional strategy in Montreal. Even though neither of the Ferrari drivers won, or even got on the podium for that matter, the team has finally generated viral reactions for the right reasons.

Leclerc had a massive task in front of him as he began in P10 and had to climb his way up. But in Lap 12 of the race, George Russell launched his Mercedes over the curb at the exit of Turn 9. This led to him crashing into the barrier and bringing out the yellow flags, and the safety car. Most of the cars, including race leader Max Verstappen, pitted under the safety car. But Ferrari made a bold decision, as they chose to keep both their drivers out on the track. And it did wonders for them. Leclerc went from P8 to P4, and his teammate, Carlos Sainz, from P10 to P5.

After the early exit in Q2 on Saturday, Charles Leclerc was vocally unhappy with their performance. He said, “So I’m very frustrated and very disappointed with today, and tomorrow I’ll try to make the best race possible in order to come back.” And “make the best race possible”, he did. And he could do so because Ferrari confidently chose to not pit during a safety car period.

Though Ferrari could not get Leclerc the right tires in Qualifying, they compensated for that during the race with a solid one-stop strategy. Leclerc finished the race in P4 and Sainz brought the car home in P5. F1 fans went into an absolute frenzy as Ferrari got something right after a long time.
