Not even some of the highest honors can capture the contributions made by Lewis Hamilton in the world of sport. However, a Knighthood, which allows him to use “Sir” ahead of his name, comes close to it. This honor was bestowed upon Sir Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
The ceremony held at Windsor Castle witnessed Prince Charles knight Hamilton three days after the Abu Dhabi GP. A moment he shared with his mother, a moment he will forever cherish. However, years before the day of his knighting, a young Hamilton met Prince Charles and innocently predicted the future.

Back in 1997, when Hamilton was still karting, he visited McLaren, his future employer. Hamilton met Prince Charles during his visit. An approximately 12-year-old Hamilton during this meeting made a bold statement to the Prince of Wales. He said, “Hey, I’m Lewis Hamilton, one day I want to be a F1 world champion.” An innocent prediction that came true.
However, this moment and conversation came full circle during the knighthood ceremony.
During the ceremony, Prince Charles said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you, you’ve come a long way.”
A wholesome moment between the Prince of Wales and the King of tracks. A wholesome moment that took almost two and a half decades in the making, but it was worth the wait. However, it’s the long and successful journey that led to the knighthood, and it’s very well-deserved.
