Alpine has been embroiled in a lot of issues in 2022. With the Oscar Piastri saga and the team also losing Fernando Alonso, they were the butt of all jokes in the silly season. Though, since then, the Enstone-based outfit did a good job of recruiting Pierre Gasly. Still, there has been a lot of talking about Gasly’s rivalry with his fellow French teammate. Esteban Ocon was quite vocal about getting Mick Schumacher as his teammate for 2023. But, the team decided otherwise. Nonetheless, the French team has delighted fans with a helmet swap between this beloved duo.
Alpine took to Twitter to post a picture of a helmet swap between Esteban Ocon and Mick Schumacher. Apparently, the swap must have taken place in Abu Dhabi, the final race in 2022. Although, the social media team of Alpine F1 kept this picture until now for posting. Their tweet read, “The helmet swap we didn’t show you 😎”
Of course, Esteban has been great friends with Mick. The duo shared a good camaraderie and bonding, often seen in the paddock. When Schumacher’s F1 future was up in the air, Ocon backed him to get a seat beside him at Alpine.

With Alonso already going to Aston Martin and Piastri to McLaren, Alpine was looking out to get a teammate for Ocon for 2023. While Mick was in the running for the vacant seat along with Nyck de Vries, the team’s first preference was Pierre Gasly.
Fortunately, they got him out of his Red Bull contract to form an all-French driver lineup at the French team. Meanwhile, Ocon has seemed fine with Gasly coming on board. Still, he would like it even more if Mick was his teammate.

Esteban Ocon would have loved to partner with Mick as a teammate. But, the German driver has signed up with Mercedes as a reserve driver. Interestingly, Ocon too was a Mercedes academy driver, so there is a good connection there.
