Alpine driver Esteban Ocon went out of Q1 in a shocking qualifying result. The Frenchman qualified P17 after finishing 6 tenths behind his teammate Fernando Alonso. The Q1 exit left Ocon disappointed as he was looking competitive in the Free Practise sessions at the Styrian Grand Prix.

When asked about his pace in the Qualifying, Ocon mentioned, “Yes. Not acceptable obviously to be out of Q1.”

We are clearly not happy with where we stand today: Ocon

After his poor result, Ocon mentioned he is not happy with his result in his post-qualifying interviews. He also stated that he was lacking pace as compared to his 2-time world champion teammate.

We are clearly not happy with where we stand today. We were lacking pace today since morning. Clearly, we didn’t manage to find it into qualifying.

“Clearly, we need to regroup, keep analyzing, keep seeing what’s going on because on our side it’s getting difficult.” said Ocon on his pace on Saturday.

When asked about his difficulties in the car, Ocon stated,” Yeah. I don’t feel happy with the car. I don’t feel that the performance is there. When I finish a lap, I feel like we gave it the maximum but the lap time is just not coming. So we need to understand.”

Styrian Grand Prix Qualifying provides an interesting grid for the race

According to crash.net, The qualifying on Saturday provided a mixed-up grid for Sunday. As Lando Norris will start P3 and Gasly starts P6.

Valtteri Bottas will start the race P5 after his 3 place grid penalty. George Russell’s Williams almost made it Q3, but he missed out by.008 seconds but will start 10th after Yuki Tsunoda was given a 3 place grid penalty.

Daniel Ricciardo failed to make it Q3 as he qualified 13th and was over half a second behind his teammate. 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel also failed to make it into the Top-10 as he finished 14th behind the Australian.
