“I mean, we felt safe because Max was there. So we know they can’t f*ck it up if Max is in the plane!,” said Pierre Gasly, recalling a Red Bull-AlphaTauri detour on a seaplane. This was the first time he spoke of his ‘love’ for flying. While that is in the past, Max Verstappen not being on board this time around made him look like a scared infant while Gasly’s teammate and frenemy Esteban Ocon had a blast looking at him.

Gasly and Ocon are two boys from Normandy who made it to F1. That is a pretty magical thing to happen considering the extremely limited nature of the sport. However, their story hasn’t always been filled with rainbows and butterflies as the duo who began as the closest friends didn’t speak to one another for a good span of time before being pitted against each other in the same team.

While many have speculated a French civil war on the brink, ready to unfold, an unexpected moment has probably brought them closer. What was the moment? It was the Alpine driver’s flying. And Gasly is petrified of it.

Pierre Gasly has admitted many times to not being a fan of flying. While it is funny because the F1 circus is always on the move and the drivers and contingents never really stop flying, the ex-AlphaTauri driver cannot get over his fear.
