Alex Albon faced heavy criticism after his weekend in Nurburgring. Red Bull were optimistic about him after his outing in Mugello. However, after two unsettling performances, the Anglo-Thai driver’s seat at the Austrian marquee is in a precarious position.
Although he may change for the better over the course of the impending races of the 2020 season, Red Bull will want to keep a replacement at hand. Thus, given the circumstances, F1 pundits have pointed at Nico Hulkenberg.
Hulkenberg’s performance at the Eifel Grand Prix was mind-blowing. The German was stranded down in P20 at lights out and valiantly fought his way up to a P8 finish. That outing was a testament to Hulk’s class and instincts.

However, the German expressed no high hopes at the prospect of a potential drive at Red Bull in the near future.
“The chance is very small. We know that you will always stand by your Red Bull driver squad. Therefore, it cannot be assumed,” replied Nico Hulkenberg.
When asked about AlphaTauri, the German replied without too much fanfare. “You never know, time will tell”
Red Bull need a racer to challenge Max’s authority on the team. They are certain that for Verstappen to unlock his full potential, what he needs is a worthy opponent within the team.
Therefore, Red Bull will always be on the hunt for a better driver. However, for them to choose someone that can adjust to their car is a challenge. Thus, before jumping into conclusions, all the arenas need evaluation.
