Max Verstappen took the 2022 championship home and broke Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton’s dream of the championship. Both Mercedes and Ferrari were expected to come out all guns blazing for the 2023 championship but it was the handicapped Red Bull that came out on top. Max Verstappen, known for his aggressive style has now reflected humility as he reveals the surprise given by the RB19 early on in the season.
Red Bull were found guilty of breaching the cost cap regulations in 2022 and as a result, were fined and handed a deduction in their aerodynamic testing time. Already having the least testing allowance because they finished 1st, the 10% deduction came as a sledgehammer. Nonetheless, when Red Bull rolled up at the winter testing with the RB19, the performance and the number left everyone including the Ferrari and Mercedes shocked.
It was then followed by the dominant performance at the Bahrain GP. However once the first 5 rounds were won by Red Bull at tracks with different characteristics, it was clear that Adrian Newey and Co. managed to build a car that dominated the whole field despite having the handicap. Now as Verstappen took the championship home, he reflected on the season and the brilliant job that his team did.

According to Racingnews365, Max Verstappen while talking about the RB19 said, “It always felt nice. I thought it had good balance. But you never know what the other teams have come up with over the winter time – we really expected it to be close into Bahrain. We were all positively surprised with how good the car was there. But that’s one track. Of course, when you go to the next tracks and you can see, the car has always been quick – especially in the race.”

Verstappen then hailed his team as he added, “It was easy to make a mistake as a team, even if you would have a dominant car. I think for most of the races, we just did an incredible job.”
Red Bull definitely optimized their car in the best possible way with the least amount of resources. When Sergio Perez’s car was lifted in Monaco, everyone realized the extent of development on the RB19 underfloor, as it was dubbed as a masterpiece. And seems like Verstappen’s Red Bull domination isn’t ending anytime soon.

Max Verstappen sees his future with Red Bull
Sebastian Vettel left Red Bull after winning 4 consecutive titles with the team to chase his dream of winning a championship with Ferrari and continue the Michael Schumacher legacy. However, unlike Vettel, Verstappen sees his F1 future with Red Bull through and through. If Red Bull keeps delivering and Verstappen stays in the form that he is, there will be no stopping the Dutch champ.
Speaking with Sky Sports, Max Verstappen said, “It would be a beautiful story if I could drive here forever, that’s for sure, something that will be amazing. I’m really happy with where I am. I feel at home, I feel really happy with the people who are very close to me here in the team.”
