The 2022 Belgian Grand Prix is one race Lewis Hamilton will be eager to forget. As F1 returned from the summer break this season, it wasn’t quite a return the Mercedes man wanted. However, fans think Lewis Hamilton got to blame nobody else but himself for the shunt.

The race at Spa Francorchamps saw Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso tangle with each other on Lap 1. The Mercedes driver tried to go around the Alpine man, and that was when Hamilton’s tire got nicked. Mercedes W13’s right rear tire got tangled with Alpine’s left front, resulting in Hamilton going airborne.

The British International started from P4 and wanted to have a podium finish for sure. However, he failed in his try and fans think Lewis Hamilton is only to be blamed for the debacle. Fans on this shared their opinions and stated, “Hamilton drove like a rookie, ruining Alonso’s mega start. Credit lost Hamilton.

A fan named Simon Martinez further shared, “And Hamilton doing once again whatever dangerous driving and no penalty”

After the hit, Hamilton had to retire from the race immediately. The Silver Arrows ace parked his car outside of the track and walked his way out. On the other hand, Alonso got a decent finish in P5, finishing ahead of Charles Leclerc in the sheet. Even though the Spanish driver started from P3, it must’ve been better than retirement.

What else do the F1 fans had to say about the Lewis Hamilton debacle?

The fans have shared their thoughts on the official 2022 F1 Belgian Grand Prix video on YouTube. On the highlights clip uploaded by F1’s official channel, the fans poured in their thoughts. One of the fans named Faust Tsui wrote, “Ham (Hamilton) needs to understand that Alonso is no Nico (Nico Rosberg), he just can’t bump his way to the top anymore.”

Another fan named Marco stated that “ Lewis can’t drive side by side, he has proved this over and over. To a degree, what Alonso said about him only knowing how to start 1st is very accurate.”

While a fan named Noah Black wrote, “You would expect Lewis to have given Fernando more room but still a big mistake from lewis.”
