Season 6, Episode 5 of Drive to Survive gives a little background on Pierre Gasly’s situation with formerly named AlphaTauri. Gasly takes a walk down memory lane, talking about his journey with the team. In the interview segment, he says, “In my career, I’ve been with Red Bull Racing or AlphaTauri for ten years. My first win with AlphaTauri. I scored the most points of any driver in that team in the entire history of Formula 1.”
Coming back to the main point, he says, “But, ultimately as a driver, what you want is a competitive car, and I’ll stop here.” After explaining his main problem with the team, he claims, “It’s impossible to win a championship with AlphaTauri.” That’s where Gasly made an announcement saying, “So I’m starting this new project with Alpine. Full of excitement about this new chapter in my life.”
The French driver’s switch was a shock to the world, as he has been a loyal member of the Red Bull family. Speaking about his future in Formula 1, he stated, “I really see huge potential in Alpine. I think these opportunities come along the way as you reach the top of your sport.”
Pierre Gasly’s season with Alpine
The first year with Alpine was difficult for Pierre Gasly, to say the least. Although the team was making strides with the 28-year-old driver, with him coming in 11th on the grid. This was difficult for him as he expected progress but only felt like he was moving backward. Although he managed to get a podium at the Dutch GP, he was out of the points for more than half the races.

Whether the team will grow with the driver is something that only time will tell, but it does seem like a good move on Gasly’s end considering that AlphaTauri finished second last on the constructors cup and Alpine came 6th.
Driving alongside Esteban Ocon, Alpine had dropped down 2 ranks compared to 2022, but that was while Fernando Alonso was driving for them. After replacing the Spaniard, the team has their work cut out for them to be able to dominate the midfield.
