Can Lewis Hamilton truly surpass Michael Schumacher's legacy, or is he chasing an impossible dream?

Lewis Hamilton is riding high on confidence after his historic British GP victory. But the world’s eyes remain on his 2025 move to Ferrari, which brings the promise of achieving his record-breaking 8th world championship, surpassing his 7 championships tie with idol Michael Schumacher. Although, the Briton is wary of the challenge that awaits him in Maranello. “It’s also daunting because it’s new territory, it’s a new experience. It’ll be a challenge, but you know, I love a challenge,” he said. However, his focus is unwavering.

French Luxury fashion house Dior has announced a “momentous” partnership with Lewis Hamilton today, capitalizing on the positive wave of his Silverstone victory. In an exclusive interview with WWD, the 7-time champion expressed his excitement for the move to Ferrari, calling it a “dream scenario”. The Briton, who used to race as Michael Schumacher in F1 games as a kid, will get to experience the same love from the team’s passionate fans.

Because of Schumacher’s invincible run with Ferrari, every kid with an F1 dream wants to ride in Red. So did Hamilton, who elaborated, saying, “You’d always look at the screen and wonder what it would be like to be in a red car. So I think it’s going to be an interesting experience, but one I’m really excited about.”

Addressing the elephant in most F1 rooms, his much-awaited 8th championship, “I’m working towards the eighth. I’ve just got to keep pushing,” he emphasized. Interestingly, Hamilton and Schumacher’s career choices mirrored each other’s. The German initially won championships with Ferrari before heading to Mercedes, and the Briton won championships with Mercedes before moving to Ferrari.

Though Schumacher coming out of retirement for a Mercedes drive wasn’t worthwhile, Hamilton’s Ferrari assessment could be spot on. Future Ferrari star Oliver Bearman already has high hopes for the success of this mammoth transfer next year.

Oliver Bearman expects Lewis Hamilton to infuse a “winning mentality” into Ferrari

Ferrari reserve driver Oliver Bearman took the F1 world by surprise with his heroic P11 to P7 drive in Jeddah this year. Replacing an ailing Carlos Sainz, he even beat Lewis Hamilton to the finish line! The 7-time champion declared the young Briton as a future F1 star and Haas has got the ball rolling by signing him for 2025. In his last year as a Ferrari reserve, the 19-year-old highlighted the pivotal change that Hamilton will bring in 2025. “I think he’ll bring a lot of experience to the team,” Bearman told Sky Sports in Silverstone.

“He’s won seven world championships. That’s something that not many people can say. He’ll bring a good mentality to the team, a winning mentality. But of course, his talent is undeniable. He’s one of the best to have ever done it.” Though the hype is positively unreal, there will be cultural barriers for Lewis Hamilton to overcome. He has only driven McLaren and Mercedes in F1, both of which are British teams.

Moving to Maranello, Italy, would bring unseen challenges forth, but nothing that the 7-time champion can’t overcome. Hamilton had also mentioned that he was heading to witness a major change in cultures. While calling the Brits “quiet and more calm,” he deemed, “Italians are much more emotional.”

However, from the words, it can be said that he doesn’t want to overthink the future. “I don’t truly know what to expect, but I have raced in Italy. So yeah, expect it to be a huge amount different, but special and unique,” he concluded.
