Formula 1 is arguably the most expensive sport in the world. Millions are at stake when the lights go out every weekend. The drivers, engineers, team officials, and strategies involved are all highly paid individuals. Among all of them, drivers make the most money. And if we talk about the driver who makes the most money on the current grid, it is Max Verstappen.

The Flying Dutchman has emerged as the top-earning individual in 2022, as even overtook Lewis Hamilton, who could not win a single race in 2022.

The 2022 F1 season has been a dominant season for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman picked up 15 race wins, 17 podiums, and 454 points to clinch his second F1 world title. Verstappen has set the record for most wins in a season as well as the most points collected in a season.

These incredible statistics fetched the 25-year-old a staggering $20 million in bonuses, according to Forbes. He also has a reported $40 million salary from his team. Adding the $40 million a year salary from Red Bull and the $20 million in bonuses makes it a total of $60 million for just the 2022 year for Verstappen. This is the highest on the grid.

However, earlier this season, it was reported that Verstappen bagged a lucrative deal of $55 million with the Austrian team after last year’s championship win. Going by that, Max’s total earning comes out to be $75 million.

Well, whether it is $60 million or $75 million, as per Forbes, Max Verstappen has gone home earning more this year than Lewis Hamilton, who’s worth $285 million.

How much did Lewis Hamilton make from the 2022 F1 season?

Lewis Hamilton, who has been the top-earning driver for a very long time, has fallen short in competing against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

Hamilton earned a reported salary of $55 million from Mercedes this season. However, he could not pick up any bonuses, according to Forbes. This could be due to his winless season and an eventual P6 finish in the driver’s standings.

If his salary and bonuses are counted, he made $55 million this year, which is around $5 million short of Verstappen.

Other than Verstappen and Hamilton, Fernando Alonso took home $30 million, Sergio Perez took home $26 million, and Charles Leclerc $23 Million altogether to complete the top five.
