Sustainability has become a buzzword in Formula 1, with the sport taking major actions in becoming carbon neutral by 2030. There have been drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and some other drivers who have aligned themselves with this mission. And recently, Kelly Piquet, the girlfriend of current F1 champion Max Verstappen has also found herself taking a stand. She is addressing critical issues like the fight against capitalism and a call for conscious consumerism.

Max Verstappen’s girlfriend warns against getting manipulated amidst the holiday fever

The road to fighting environmental issues is not without its challenges though. Especially with high-profile celebrities, and Piquet has faced her share of accusations of hypocrisy due to her lifestyle. Despite her efforts to contribute positively to the environment, critics have questioned whether her actions align with her message.

Despite these setbacks, Piquet doesn’t shy away from addressing the challenges that plague our environment. In a recent Instagram story, she shared a post encouraging her followers to think twice before making purchases during the holiday season. She emphasizes the need to consider the origins of a product, the conditions under which it is made, and the environmental and social impact of its raw materials. Her message is simple: ask questions before you mindlessly buy stuff.

A part of the post she shared read, “CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION. During this end-of-year period, the market tempts you. Think a few times before buying. Do you really need it? Where does the product come from? Who makes it, under what conditions? Are there raw materials that cause less environmental and social impact? Does the brand support socio-environmental projects? We may not always know all the answers… but ask questions. Asking triggers changes.

While Piquet’s commitment to environmental causes is evident, the skepticism surrounding her lifestyle choices remains a topic of debate.

Why did the internet target Kelly Piquet for hypocrisy?

The claims of hypocrisy came up when Piquet joined forces with Opp Swimwear in the fight against plastic waste. The critics were not impressed, pointing to the stark contrast between her environmental commitment and her lifestyle. Piquet, despite the backlash, defended her position, stating her long-standing advocacy for recycling instilled in her by her mother since childhood.

The scrutiny grew when Piquet’s association with fashion brands and the glamorous lifestyle associated with Formula 1 came into focus. The ownership of a private jet, family assets worth millions, and his connection to the Red Bull star driver, Max Verstappen, added to the doubts about Piquet’s dedication to the cause.
