Everyone is a Fernando Alonso fan, even if they say they aren’t, they are Fernando fans. While we may have nicked this line off of Sebastian Vettel, the 41-year-old Fernando has nicked his glory back. For the main race across the streets of Monaco, the man, in the 4th decade of his life, lines alongside Max Verstappen. And the Dutchman, at the cost of his own achievements, briefly let his fanboy out but came back to his senses soon enough.
Max Verstappen is known to have a quality that sets him apart. And it is not his spectacular driving skills but his hunger to never back down. The man didn’t back down last year in Brazil when he was already a world champion, so him doing so before this year’s championship seems like an impossible situation regardless of his heartfelt wish.
Post the spectacular qualifying session in Monaco, Verstappen stated even he wanted Fernando to win, but the Dutch Lion soon came back to his senses remembering how he doesn’t like to back down. As quoted by Soy Motors, Verstappen said, “I would like to see Fernando win, but I would also like to win. So It’s complicated, I’ll think about it.”

Fernando, in a post-race interview, said he might need Max and Red Bull’s help to win. Because as we know, in Monaco strategy is the biggest driving factor to execute a clearly timed overcut or an undercut and Fernando is hopeful.
Fernando said, “Let’s see what we can do in terms of strategy [Or] if there’s any weather coming or something, but we will try to win. I think to win the race we will need some help from Max – maybe a lucky Safety Car, a bad pit stop from Red Bull, I know they are the best ones on the pit stops but maybe one race they can have a mistake.”
