Aston Martin came out as the dark horse of the 2023 Formula 1 season. And the way they had begun the year, it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before they started troubling Red Bull for the top spots. That being said, in the past few weeks, the Fernando Alonso hype train seems to have lost its way a bit. Their recent downturn in pace compared to the others is by no stretch of the imagination a disaster given where they were last year. However, is there a more sinister undertone to them slowly falling apart?
The Silverstone-based team were really looking forward to their new factory which is reportedly worth $300,000,000 and became operational in 2023. You’d expect it to be vital to their future success. If anything, this should’ve pushed their charge to the very front of the field with a degree of certainty. However, in reality, it may be the real cause behind their sudden downfall. But is team the ready to call it quits?

In the month of May, the team started shifting to their latest headquarters. Naturally, it became a distraction and took a toll on the day-to-day running of the team. This has no doubt translated into the drop in form. But the team isn’t going to hide behind the garb of this easy excuse.
Team Principal, Mike Krack was quoted by Motorsport-Total.com as saying, “The move should never be used as an excuse. We knew beforehand that if we made this decision we would have to move and we have to make the best of it without looking for excuses.” [translated via Google]
While his boss is focused on making the most of what’s left of 2023, Alonso has resigned himself to fate.

These past couple of races, Alonso and Aston Martin have really not been able to impress. They’ve really been nowhere in terms of pace. However, the Spaniard still sees a silver lining in it all as he sets his sights on ultimate glory.
Motorsport.com quoted him as saying, “To be honest I’m not too stressed about the development. The car is better than expected this year. We are fighting for things that we could probably never dream at the beginning of the year. So now if we can keep in the top 10 and fighting with the top guys, it’s great. But I think we have to focus as well on the long-term picture.”
