F1 means money. Big money. You don’t necessarily need speed in your driving if you have enough bucks to your name since the skills only become secondary and irrelevant in the absence of a big pocket. Whereas, in the presence of money, speed becomes unimportant because then you just have to be fast enough. And voila, there you have your pay driver.

We’ve seen plenty of such drivers in recent years, including Nicholas Latifi, Nikita Mazepin, and Lance Stroll, who were largely thought to have paid their salaries to the F1 seat. And out of this, Lance’s case, in particular, is very curious, because now imagine you are not just buying a seat but an entire team! Yes, that’s how rich the Strolls are, with the senior Stroll, Lawrence, running the Aston Martin team.

And Lawrence is a rich man. And we’re talking filthy kind of rich, with a net worth of roughly $3.2 billion, as reported by the Express, which the Aston Martin driver is set to inherit, will make him nearly $3 billion richer than the otherwise richest driver on the grid, Lewis Hamilton, who only boasts $285 million! The Mercedes driver has been the highest paid in the sport for years and yet could only accumulate so much, which Stroll would just run comfortably ahead of.

This is the question that runs around in the minds of many, especially among Formula 1 fans. And the answer to this is no surprise: Lewis Hamilton, the driver who absolutely ruled the turbo-hybrid era with Mercedes and won six championships during the said time.

According to Crash, the Briton was paid $40 million in 2022, five times more than second place, but the champion, Max Verstappen, who had signed a contract extension with Red Bull until 2028. This puts into perspective how much richer Lance will be despite only earning a reported $10 million. And after the top two spots, the salaries take a huge dip, with Fernando Alonso taking the third sport with half of Lewis’s paycheck.

Salaries, however, can’t be an accurate indicator of a driver’s skills. With drivers such as Leclerc and Sainz ranking so low, it also fails to check the potential.
