For most, life never goes according to plan. There is always a curveball that one misses and it hits right on the face. No one is exempt from this painful and hard-hitting reality, not even Formula 1 drivers. Yes, from the outside looking in, the life of an F1 driver is like a fairytale. However, the world of F1 can be kind to some but extremely brutal to others. These uncertain scenarios often leave drivers with regrets of unfulfilled goals or dreams. However, who would’ve thought even a double world champion and the youngest at the time, Fernando Alonso would still have regrets?

Well, the ambitious Spaniard obviously does. Alonso, at 42 is still not regressing and putting up incredible performances with Aston Martin. So back when he was driving for Ferrari, Alonso was a strong championship contender. However, the Spaniard could not capitalize on his chances and lost out on the championship in both 2010 and 2012 to a young Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. As quoted on Twitter, this is Alonso’s biggest regret in F1.

“[Not] Winning a Championship with Ferrari. In 2010 and 2012, we were a few laps away. That probably could have changed the outcome of many things,” said Alonso on the High-Performance Podcast.

The Spaniard might be old but class is permanent and Alonso showcased that perfectly with his multiple podium finishes. No one expected Aston Martin to be this high up the grid before the start of the season. However, the team was transparent with Alonso from the start, and since then, the Spaniard has set the bar high for the British team.

Mike Krack admitted that as well. “We were very transparent, telling him about our weaknesses, where we were as a team. We try to involve him in the process and use his input to grow,” Krack shared. He further added, “He tests us at every meeting and every race, but it’s a great learning exercise if you have someone who challenges you with experience and their desire to do well.”
