Lewis Hamilton almost secured a front-row start at the Spanish GP. The Briton was less than a tenth away from Carlos Sainz’s time. Nevertheless, Toto Wolff anyway deemed Max Verstappen out of reach, so the podium is the best that anyone can do at the moment unless the Dutchman has a failure, right? Lewis Hamilton does not think so as he hopes for his old nemesis to beat the current championship leader. Who is this old nemesis?

Red Bull and Max Verstappen have been the class of the grid so far this season. It looks like the Dutchman is going to run away with the championship. Toto Wolff recently praised Max Verstappen suggesting that he is on a different level this season. He added how Red Bull has built the best car on merit and with Verstappen driving the way he is, the Dutchman in the RB19 looks far away

With the pace that Red Bull has, they can very well win all the races this season. Nevertheless, one of Toto Wolff’s drivers came out suggesting he wishes otherwise. Lewis Hamilton, in a PR event during the Spanish GP, indicated how he wishes for Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso to win the Spanish GP and beat Max Verstappen. However, it looks very difficult now as the qualifying session did not go Alonso’s way as he damaged the floor early in the session and will start P8 as a result of that.

According to a video uploaded by @fastpitstop, Lewis Hamilton during the PR event said “I’m hoping that Aston Martin can compete, I hope that Fernando can beat Max this weekend.” Hamilton’s statement was taken very well by the Spanish crowd as they cheered for their home hero, Fernando Alonso.

Lewis Hamilton hasn’t been comfortable with how the W14 feels to drive. Despite that, the Briton has always been up there in and around the Top 5. Fernando Alonso explains how the Mercedes is not an easy car to drive but Hamilton is driving the wheels of it, extracting whatever he can. The Spaniard suggested that Hamilton will have another chance at winning the championship, as Mercedes is a championship-winning team and Hamilton is a mega-driver.

According to Independent.co.uk, Fernando Alonso said “Lewis will be in contention for the eighth title. I don’t know if that will be next year, or in the future, but he will have another chance of winning the championship, that is for sure. Mercedes are a very strong team, and Lewis is a very strong driver. He doesn’t forget how to drive from one season to the next. The Mercedes car is not an easy one to drive and it is not a fast car, but you see every weekend that Lewis is always there – fourth, fifth, fourth, and he was second in Australia. He is driving on top of the car.”
