How much amount did Michael Schumacher’s title-winning car fetch?
Ferrari’s legendary 2003 F1 car was recently auctioned in Geneva, Switzerland. The 1954 Mercedes W196R, driven by Juan Manuel Fangio, was sold in 2013 for $29.65 million and remains the most expensive F1 car to be auctioned. The F2003, sold to a telephone bidder, went for $13.2 million as the amount exceeded the auctioning agency Sotheby’s’ expectations.
The auctioneer said, “This extraordinary car has reached a world record price for a modern Formula 1.” The auctioning agency had expected the car to be sold for around $9.4 million. The Maranello factory restored the car to its original glory, earning the car Ferrari Classiche’s “Red Book” certification.
The 1954 Mercedes W196R auction looks set to hold the record for a long time. At least until we see Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes championship winning being auctioned.
