“Red Bull is on another planet,” said Charles Leclerc, who pulled in strong timing during qualifying at Jeddah. Despite coming closest to the fastest car, the Ferrari golden boy bowed down to the Milton Keynes-based outfit. And the hopes of the team which stood in second place in both championships last year seem to be on a downward spiral. However, as a genuine leader would, the team’s principal, Frederic Vasseur, has kept a ‘no mountain is too big’ attitude.

The man was inducted to lead the team which has been waiting for its glory that has shied away from them for the past 15 years. While Mattia Binotto’s ousting was supposed to take away all the issues that plagued the Maranello outfit, the 2023 show so far has been even worse. On pure pace, the team now stands fourth and Pundits have started declaring that the tire degradation topping all their problems will prevent them from seeing the light of day. However, Vasseur believes that you need to keep pushing for the best. And expects to catch the Raging Bulls as well.

As quoted by motorsport-nextgen, Frederic, when asked about the huge gap to Red Bull, he said, “I think so. We have to keep pushing. It’s not the right attitude to think of the gap, to wonder if we can close the gap, etc. We have to be focused on ourselves, we know where we are weak, and where we have to go. improve. We’ll see what the outcome is, when we make a decent step with our first evolutions. But if you start thinking about what the future potential might be, with development and so on, you’re lost.”

He further added, “We know we have to improve, it’s the DNA of our sport. It’s not just the DNA of the current situation. We know we have to work and we will continue, and be sure that every morning I’ll be in the office pushing everyone like hell.”

Vasseur said, “But that’s not entirely true. The atmosphere and collaboration within the team is good, but we have more pressure from outside. It’s my job to ensure that the climate current rumors that can affect the morale of the team is not a drag. Because, yes, you can be affected by these kinds of rumors that have nothing to do with reality.”
