Have an interesting take?
He recently told WWD that he was learning how to fly a helicopter. However, he’s having a hard time getting a license. “I’m trying to get my license but it’s a very slow process because I can’t fit it in too often so I’ve only got, like, 15 hours of flying so far,” he said. To get a helicopter pilot license in the UK, one must have a minimum of 45 hours of flight training, but due to his tight schedule throughout the year, Lewis has only 15 hours of training. 30 more hours before he becomes a pilot, and given how dedicated Hamilton is, he will surely get it in no time.
Was F1 ever enough for him to challenge his fearlessness? No. Will he ever stop surprising his fans? Never. Despite previous near-death encounters, ‘Hambone’ will always choose the thrill of risky activities. Remember the time when Lewis Hamilton was trapped in the ‘kill zone’ while surfing in Hawaii?

Lewis Hamilton recalled his mortifying 2021 near-death experience while surfing in Hawaii. During an appearance on the ‘Hot Ones’ show, Hamilton shared the story of his bravery in Pipeline. He was visiting with his friend and professional surfer Kelly Slater. Before the adventure, the Brit was cautioned about the deadly waves and the dangerous conditions that prevailed. However, Hamilton wandered into the water, only to find himself trapped in the ‘kill zone’. Four massive waves threatened to overwhelm him, but he didn’t give up.
Hamilton narrated: “I turn around and see this set of four waves coming and that for me was like: ‘it’s over, it’s all over.’ As I threw my board, I dove down and grabbed the reef and I could hear this wave crash behind me. My board got ripped and snapped in half.” This continued three times and had turned into a battle for survival. Ultimately, the champ emerged safe and victorious.
But, did this near-death experience stop him from trying scary activities? No. And as far as his fans know, the Mercedes driver will never back down from the thrill. His relentless pursuit of adrenaline rush transcends beyond F1. From mastering the skies in his quest to obtain a helicopter pilot license to braving the treacherous waves of Hawaii’s Pipeline, Hamilton’s courage is incomparable.
