It appears that Lewis Hamilton’s team is being followed by the ghosts of the past, just as they were starting to go on the right trajectory after encountering some challenges. The final results at Spa Francorchamps suggest some other storylines where we saw Hamilton finishing at P4. However, what followed from the end of the Mercedes Maestro was a nasty complaint. Now, the Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has recently made statements endorsing the team’s significant advancement.
As a result of his performance in Belgian qualifying, Hamilton started third on race day, intending to engage in a battle with Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc. However, fate had other ideas. The race on Sunday proved to be more challenging for the seven times champion. This was in contrast to the rain-affected sprint race on Saturday, where he received a 5-second penalty for a collision with Checo Perez.
Mercedes noticed a ghost from the past returning to haunt them. During the race, it was evident that the Silver Arrows were falling behind Red Bull and unable to compete. Hamilton vehemently criticized this aspect after the race. He claimed that the porpoising problem, which rendered the entire campaign of last year a failure, had occurred in the W-14.

In his vicious complaints, the Mercedes ace said, “It was kind of a non-eventful race. There wasn’t much going on and I wasn’t able to keep up with the cars ahead of me. Struggled at the beginning, rear end is our biggest issue and we had big bouncing this weekend, so we were back to the bouncing like we had last year.” And now that Toto Wolff has examined W-14’s performance, we have come to know his perspective. He talked about the bouncing motion and as per Formulpassion he said, “If you make a comparison with the rest of the world, between us, Perez and Leclerc there were less than six seconds before the last stop.” Wolff said while elaborating on his side.
Later, while showing a bit of optimism, the Mercedes boss said, “It was an important step for us because last year Spa was a disaster. We feel we have progressed. But then you look at the first in the standings, which has taken another step forward. We just have to turn the situation around.”
As the previous ghost returned to haunt the Silver Arrows, many professionals sent Lewis Hamilton a caustic farewell. However, given their current issue, one wonders if Mercedes’ most recent enhancements have brought back a ghost from the past.
In response to Lewis Hamilton’s grievance, Toto Wolff discusses whether the most recent Mercedes upgrades have brought back the past ghost
Porpoising ruined Mercedes’ entire season in 2022; the team only began recuperating in the final races of the year. However, the Brackley-based company had issues with their slow W-14 at the beginning of this year, which caused them to deliver updates at irregular intervals.

And to follow up on that, the German Manufacturers have once more updated their W-14 for the Belgian GP Weekend. This substantial improvement included extra changes to their sidepod, and an improved floor to provide more downforce.
And with the arrival of the bouncing motion, Toto Wolff appears to blame the most recently implemented changes for the existence of this unwelcome issue. While opening on the issue he told to skysportsf1, “I think the floor could have been a reason why we’ve been bouncing. We’re going to see it in the data and maybe there is something which we need to fine-tune because I still believe the direction we are going now is the right one.”
