Just when we were starting to think McLaren was the surprise package in Austria, the Woking outfit pulled a rabbit out of the hat at Silverstone as well. The second of the three-part upgrade package put the MCL60 second on the grid in terms of race pace. The McLaren men, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri proved that with their incredible qualifying result. However, a lot can happen over the course of the race. The Woking outfit could’ve easily ruined their home race with their tire choice, as brutally pointed out by Norris. However, according to veteran expert Peter Windsor, the team was brilliant throughout.

The Brit criticized the team’s decision to put hard tires on during a post-race interview, calling it amateurish. To be exact, Norri said, “They put me hard tyres, I’m not sure why. Still are beginners in some things.”

However, former Williams and Ferrari manager Windsor, in his British GP review YouTube video did not see a fault in McLaren’s strategy. In fact, the British expert was full of praise for the Papaya team.

Discussing McLaren’s weekend, he said, “For sure McLaren has done a brilliant job with the restructuring with upgrades, two fabulous drivers. For me, the most significant thing was the way McLaren called the hard tire choice for the second run. I mean, obviously, it did not involve Oscar before the safety car but Lando that was a critical moment.”

It did become a little sketchy in the second stint when Norris was on a new set of hard tires and chasing Lewis Hamilton on used softs. However, the young Brit kept his cool and kept his place till the end uplifting the entire Papaya army. This performance is proof of why Hamilton is entrusting Norris with the nation’s future in the sport.

As time passes, Hamilton is nearing the inevitable. Hamilton has been the pride of Britain ever since his F1 debut back in 2007. However, as he nears retirement and after inspiring millions, the “top Brit” is passing the baton, so to speak, to the next generation. Although he is confident, both Norris and his teammate George Russell are more than capable of becoming the nation’s pride in F1.

“It’s not passing the baton, but knowing we have other great British drivers will prolong the success of the Brits moving forwards. Our fan base will always have good drivers [to cheer for] because we generally develop good drivers in the UK,” said Hamilton.”George [Russell] and Lando [Norris] are both incredibly talented and have such a bright future ahead of them. It’s crazy to think they are as young as they are. Lando is 23 but has been here for ages. I’m excited to watch their journey and where they get to.”
