Most Formula 1 world champions, if not all, have one trait in common: their attitude. These serial winners are well aware of their achievements and sometimes, perhaps most times, let it get to their heads. The problem arises when they start to believe they are irreplaceable and without them, a team cannot win. This is the narrative most world champions play in their head while giving little credit to the team behind them. This is when a driver diminishes his reputation and becomes “c*cky” so to speak. Concerningly Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is heading towards this outlook.

We have seen Verstappen defy countless team orders. However, when he did start listening to the team’s orders, there was an incident that forced Helmut Marko to call him out. To be specific, the Red Bull advisor said, “Once he was a bit cocky and sailed over the curbs.” for the incident in the Canadian GP. This statement from Marko got a stinging reply from Verstappen, as quoted on Twitter.

We are not sure what actions will the team take against his comments. However, there is a feeling the Dutchman was triggered by Marko’s comments, as we have seen a humble side of Verstappen as well.

If and when Verstappen wins his third championship, he will be on safe footing as F1 GOATs like Ayrton Senna and Niki Lauda. However, when discussing this aspect, Verstappen gave his humble take on such comparisons and records.

Verstappen said, “I think I already achieved more than I could ever dream of, so for me, I always just try to get the best out of myself. I don’t really think about where I am between all of the all-time greats in terms of championships or wins. I just want to do my job. But I’ve never really been a guy that likes statistics or whatever.”
