Lewis Hamilton recently broke Max Verstappen’s record for the longest win drought in F1. Despite being the record holder and going 500+ days without a win, another record of his is bound to dethrone Sergio Perez as the street specialist. And this dethroning record was worked towards over the years as Hamilton surpassed Schumacher to it. But what is this record? And how will it help Lewis Hamilton dethrone Sergio Perez?
Mercedes is somewhat considered the low-feeling side of the paddock. Lewis Hamilton has now been winless for over 500 days. 2022 was the first season ever in Hamilton’s career in which he did not win a single race. However, with the Azerbaijan GP in sight, an unimaginable record suggests that the 38-year-old might just end the win drought. And this record will dethrone Sergio Perez’s street reputation.
Sergio Perez is widely considered a specialist in Street Circuits. The Mexican’s first win with Red Bull came at the 2021 Azerbaijan Street Circuit. He also won the 2022 Singapore GP. The current F1 season also started with a bang as he won at the Jeddah Corniche Street circuit. A better part of his podiums during the Force India/Racing point days came on a street circuit. With street circuits only accommodating 17% of the races, having a 30% street circuit podium ratio is more than Impressive.

Nevertheless, a specialist is nothing when compared to a king, and in this story, Lewis Hamilton is the king. Formulapassion.it suggests that Lewis Hamilton is the king of Street Circuits. Out of the 71 Grand Prix held on street circuits during his career, Hamilton has won 18, which is more than any other driver. To Top it off, Hamilton has the most street podiums as well. The Briton has secured a total of 38 podiums on the street circuit.
This implies that Lewis has scored podiums in more than half of the street races he took part in. With a new concept, technical changes, and a positive direction and trajectory, Lewis Hamilton does have some chances of winning at Baku and ending his drought. However, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton will be required to beat the unbeatable Red Bull.

Lewis Hamilton has explained how the W14 is not driveable and he feels disconnected from the car. To improve on this situation and close the gap with Red Bull, Mercedes is expecting some mechanical upgrades. James Allison explained that some different suspension elements will be introduced to improve the balance of the car, making it more driveable. As a result, the drivers will be able to push the car harder and get a better feel for it.
According to Formula1.com, James Allison said, “We will be working in the drawing office also to bring some mechanical parts to the car, some different suspension components that we think will help the underlying balance of the car, and make it a more drivable thing, making it something that the drivers have more confidence to push right to the limit.”
