Remember the 2022 season where Lance Stroll got the B-Spec AMR22 before Sebastian Vettel? Sebastian Vettel was understanding and dealt with the situation very well. Oscar Piastri was recently snubbed by Zak Brown and Co. in favor of Lando Norris. However, the Australian vows to come back stronger in Lando Norris’ backyard. What did Oscar Piastri say?
After a terrible start to the 2023 season, McLaren finally came back toward the top end of the grid with the new upgrades they brought for the Austrian GP. However, only Lando Norris got the upgrades for the weekend at Red Bull Ring as Oscar Piastri was snubbed by Zak Brown and Co. However, with the British GP on the Horizon, Oscar Piastri has made some bold claims.
Silverstone has always been a happy hunting ground for Lando Norris. The Briton has finished in and around the Top 5 in the last 3 years as he looks to carry the form from the Austria GP into the British GP. Nonetheless, as Oscar Piastri gets his hands on the upgrades this weekend, the Australian remains optimistic about having a quicker car than he did previously.

According to speedcafe.com, Oscar Piastri said “Having the upgrades we had last week obviously looked very good. I want to take it with a pinch of salt knowing that historically, it’s been quite a good track for the team and for Lando so we’ll see how we go this weekend. But I think we can be optimistic that we’ll at least be quicker than we were at the start of the year before Austria.”
Both the McLarens finished inside the Top 10 during the FP1 session at Silverstone. Despite missing out on the upgrades in Austria, Oscar Piastri played his cards like a team player as he responded to Norris getting the upgrades before him.

2023 is Lando Norris’ fifth year in F1. The McLaren driver has already made a name for himself as the Future F1 Star. From McLaren’s point of view, it made sense to give Norris the upgrades first as he’s more experienced than Piastri and is better suited for giving feedback regarding the upgrades. Oscar Piastri understands this dynamic and accepts the outcome like a true team player.
According to Speedcafe.com, Oscar Piastri said “I completely understand why Lando would get it over me given his experience with the team and position in the team. Of course, I’d love to have a direct comparison, but I’m very understanding of how it’s played out.”
