A qualifying to remember. And all the thrills came without intervention from the sky gods. While Red Bull scored a pole position here for the first time since 2013, most eyes stay set on the second row where the iconic rivalry of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton is set to unfold in the race tomorrow. Can the lining next to Alonso, who has been going around telling the world about Hamilton’s weaknesses, give the latter a sleepless night? Probably not, as the 7x champion doesn’t seem wary of the 2x champion despite all the recent digs made by the Aston Martin recruit.
Fernando Alonso is ecstatic to have found his perfect match in the shiny green team. And to affirm the belief he placed in the team that finished seventh last year, he was given a car that has put him on the podium twice in two races and allowed him to pull the most iconic overtake on Hamilton so far. However, Hamilton, who has put his slower car in front of the Spaniard in the quali session at Albert Park a few hours ago, doesn’t seem perturbed by any of it.
In the post-qualifying interview, Sky sports’ Naomi Schiff asked Hamilton what his goal for tomorrow was, “What is your goal [for the race]?” To which a focused and at the same time giggly Lewis Hamilton replied saying, “To get to first.”

Fernando Alonso, who was constantly outperformed by a rookie at McLaren eventually finishing tied to him at second place in WDC, always grabs on to the opportunity to remind the world that perhaps the Briton isn’t as superior a being. And this time he has used his party buddy, George Russell, to make that point.
As quoted by Danz, Fernando said, “With a normal car you can see that Lewis has weaknesses. Before he didn’t compete against anyone or sometimes with his teammate. He is the driver with the most pole positions in history and George Russell beats him 2-0 in the standings this season… and not he has forgotten to drive”.
