After months of negotiations and build-up to Porsche’s entry into F1 with Red Bull, the two companies ended the project. The collaborative effort that would have seen Porsche manufacture power units for Red Bull did not come to fruition. These failed negotiations, however, are equally hurtful for Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
The Mercedes team principal and CEO believes Porsche’s entry into the sport would’ve been an exciting prospect. After the negotiations breaking down with Red Bull, he also hopes the fellow Stuttgart manufacturers find a different route into F1.

The failed negotiation has also left Wolff disappointed as he would’ve loved to fight against the Red Bull and Porsche powerhouse.
“It’s a shame, obviously, from me as a Mercedes person. It’s a shame that we can’t fight with Porsche. Porsche/Red Bull would have been a mega entry. A great brand,” he said.
The Silver Arrows boss is not being selfish with his competitive spirit and feels Porsche’s entry would’ve been good for the sport as well. He expressed, “And that didn’t work out for reasons that are unknown to me. It would have been really great for F1 and all of us overall if they would have joined forces for the attractiveness of the sport.”

After pointing out the attractiveness of a big name like Porsche entering the fold, Wolff also explained how its powerful nature would’ve helped the sport.
He said, “If a brand like Porsche that is known all over the world puts their marketing dollars into activating F1, we will all be benefiting, and I think this is the important part.”
