A young Spaniard, Fernando Alonso, arrived on the scene and edged out Michael Schumacher to claim his back-to-back titles. In 2005 Alonso made the overtake on the outside of 130R at Suzuka. There was a changing of guards that the sport witnessed. But did you know that a rookie who arrived as his teammate in 2007 outperformed the same man? It was done by none other than Lewis Hamilton. And probably that’s why their rivalry is one of the most iconic. Or is it?
Continuing the feud that began at McLaren 16 years ago, there are always some fireworks that we witness between the Spaniard and the Briton. Examples of the same can be the Hungarian GP 2021, where Alonso fought off Hamilton in a much slower car for around 10 laps, or Belgium GP 2022 when, due to a first-lap contact, Fernando openly addressed Hamilton as an idiot. But the duo always resolves it and moves forward. However, Nando has done it yet again as he gave a cold shoulder to his favorite nemesis, picking someone else over him recalling his 22-year stay in the sport.
As quoted by the Sun, when Alonso was asked to choose his greatest rival, he told Bang & Olufsen, “It is difficult to choose one because they were all great rivals and very talented drivers as well.”

But he eventually did end up picking another 7x champion over Hamilton, “When I came to this sport, Michael Schumacher was dominating the races and everything, probably that fight with him would still be the one I would choose.”
While Hamilton was snubbed by Alonso, the new 2022 regulations haven’t been kind to him either. As the man has seen an all-time low in his career with the implementation of them.
Constantly losing the battle to Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton feels the new regulations have failed
Failing on their promise is what the British driver means. As the new rules to construct the machine was implemented to make the ride smoother and bunch up the field closer, the Red Bulls somehow tapped into the speed gods that has not been replicated by other teams. When asked about the dirty air dynamic changing with the new regulations, as quoted by Motorsport Week, Hamilton said, “Nope, it’s the same as the past.”

Recalling the bouncing nightmare, he further added, “I think last year for us was pretty bad with the bouncing, because you’ve got the turbulence and the bouncing, whereas this year we don’t have the bouncing, so we have less issues following cars.”
He continued in despair, stating, “I think it’s still a little bit better than the previous generation of cars. But hasn’t delivered everything that it said it would, so got some improvements to make hopefully for the future.”
