Is Hamilton's respect for Ferrari a sign of weakness or genuine sportsmanship?

Ferrari was supposed to be a title contender this season. The way their 2024 season began, many were sure that the Red Squad would have a resurgence this year. Podiums and wins became frequent until Montreal. Since then, the team’s progress just went downhill. With Lewis Hamilton, moving from Mercedes to Ferrari, fans now want the Maranello-based team to buckle up ASAP. But, despite all the criticisms and failure, Ferrari has been facing recently, Hamilton’s mind won’t be changing.

At the onset of the ‘silly season,’ the biggest announcement of the season shook the world. Lewis Hamilton announced his departure from Mercedes, the team he had been associated with since 2023. And move to Ferrari to replace Carlos Sainz. Many experts, fans, and critics alike questioned Hamilton’s decision. “Shouldn’t he retire with Mercedes?” some asked, while others congratulated him for his new journey ahead. In the chaos, the 7x World Champion’s mind didn’t budge an inch away from his decision. And yes, he’s still going to the Prancing Horse next season!

Keeping aside Ferrari’s repeated disappointments in the last five races and today’s Qualifying, Lewis is looking ahead into his future. When asked if he would have still gone to Ferrari with this Mercedes, Hamilton replied: “Yes”, showcasing that the 39-year-old made a concrete decision.
