2023 can be a make-or-break year for Lewis Hamilton. Driving for Mercedes has been fruitful for the 38-year-old. However, since 2022 the positives of being a Silver Arrows driver have surely started to wane. At the end of this year, Hamilton will be out of his Mercedes contract. But does the Brit think to re-sign, and put his faith in the team that propelled him to six world titles, or does he get lured away to the beautiful, red prancing horse in Maranello?
Less than 24 hours ago, news broke out that Ferrari have played their hand in a bid to employ the 7x champion. According to sources, the Scuderia is willing to cough up a whopping $49,000,000 a year for the services of Hamilton. While in an ideal world, Hamilton accepting the call from Ferrari is a no-brainer, the Brit must evaluate his choices clearly before making a decision that could either immortalize him or wreck his legacy completely.

Why Lewis Hamilton won’t sign for Ferrari
Arguably two of the biggest names in Formula 1 would come together if Hamilton decides to jump ship at Mercedes in favor of the Maranello-based outfit. However, this may become a very uncomfortable marriage given the constraints involved and Hamilton knows this.

Why Hamilton will at least entertain this idea; Well, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, “For one reason only: the power of attraction that the red has always exerted on every rider. Someone who has won the most in F1, behind the wheel of McLaren and Mercedes, may want to come full circle by racing for Ferrari.” [translated via Google Translate]
That being said, they feel that two defining demerits of being a Ferrari driver will eventually make Hamilton think otherwise.
“Of course, one would have to leave an environment, that of Brackley, which Lewis knows as his home, with engineers such as James Allison which he deeply esteems, to immerse himself in a completely different and extraneous context to Ferrari, where now one cannot breathe a good atmosphere. It will happen? Unlikely.”
While Ferrari are working hard to poach the Brit, don’t count Mercedes out so fast.

If Ferrari comes calling, you at least pay attention. Even for a driver like Lewis Hamilton who has now become synonymous with Mercedes, the allure for driving for a team like Ferrari isn’t lost on him. Hence, while he is lending the Scuderia a ear, currently, his loyalties lie firmly with the Silver Arrows.

Hamilton recently told ESPN, “I thought about and watched the Ferrari drivers on the screens at the track and of course you wonder what it would be like to be in red… But then I go to my team, to Mercedes, and this is my home. I’m happy where I am. I haven’t signed a contract yet, but we are working on one.”
