Name a better duo than Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin. Despite the Summer of Love, Alonso and his team’s story will come out on top as the romance of the year. Yet Lance Stroll, who’s been underperforming compared to Alonso blamed Aston Martin for the missed opportunity despite this 42-year-old teammate’s stellar record. What exactly did Lance Stroll say?
Fernando Alonso has been the lead Aston Martin driver this year with 7 podiums to his name. Nobody expected the struggling Aston Martin to make such a leap in performance. Lance Stroll on the other hand only has one P4 finish to show off for his best finish for the season. Yet, Lance Stroll decided to blame his team for missed opportunities rather than self-inspection. While Aston Martin did mess up Stroll’s strategy in Zandvoort, that hasn’t always been the case.

According to @FormulaDirecta’s tweet that quotes Racefans, Lance Stroll said “Some of the weekends we had good races, but the car was not competitive enough to finish in those podium positions. I feel like with the right setup, whatever, if everything is in place, I’ll do it. I don’t doubt it.” [Translated via Google]

Lance Stroll came out all guns blazing at the start of the 2023 season, achieving amazing results at the opening race despite broken wrists. However, even since, the Canadian’s performance has been fading away. David Croft explained how Stroll doesn’t seem as motivated hence the drop in performance. Crofty then gave a shock and advised that the 2024 finale would be Stroll’s last race of his.
According to the SkySports F1 podcast, David Croft said “I think he’s lost his way a little bit. He’s lost his Mojo and whatever has happened, Lance just doesn’t seem to be as motivated as he was at the start of the season and I do wonder if we are approaching a time when it’s the one driver on the grid that’s guaranteed a job as long as your dad is there.” He then added “But I just have a little feeling that in a year and a half’s time, Lance Stroll will race his last race in Formula 1 and go off and do something else.”
