Ever since Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from F1 last year, a crazy saga of drivers jumping ship began. Aston Martin was looking for Vettel’s replacement and zeroed in on Fernando Alonso. Landing him, however, was going to be a difficult task as his then-team, Alpine, was doing far better than them. Surprisingly, the Spaniard agreed to the deal. Despite that, the French team lined up a heart-felt parting gift for him, which marked his career’s achievements.

Being the ultimate speedsters, we all know how much F1 drivers love supercars. What is even more fascinating is the fact that being drivers for some of the most sought-after automakers, they often get these sweet rides as a part of sponsorship deals. Fernando’s fellow Spaniard and F1 rival, Carlos Sainz, recently got his custom-made Ferrari 812 Competizione.

Alonso announced his signing with Aston Martin in August. Ever since then, he openly criticized Alpine, sometimes on the team radio, for putting together a sub-par car. That was despite the fact that the French team was arguably punching above its weight, eventually finishing in 4th ahead of McLaren.

While Fernando couldn’t stay loyal, Alpine certainly did. The automaker released a $163,000 (148,000 Euro, as per Motor1.com) Alpine A110 R Fernando Alonso in October. As per Carscoops.com, there are only 32 Fernando Alonso editions out there. The car was Alpine’s tribute to all the achievements he’d had in his career until then.

The A110R houses a 1.8L 4 Cylinder Engine with 300 HP. The beast produces 340 Nm of torque from 2,400 to 6,000 rpm. It has a top speed of 117 mph, capable of going 0-62 miles in just 3.9 seconds.

While fast cars are Fernando’s first love, he has a thing for more expensive thrills as well. One that is worth an eye-watering $5.5 million. That luxurious toy is currently helping him get over his breakup with Andrea Schlager.

Perhaps they hit it off during one of their encounters in the paddocks. But the pair has now called it quits. Fernando, through an Instagram Story, reflected on the good times they spent together.
