The Ferrari F1 team is one of a kind. From being the most successful team on the grid to juggling in the midfield, they have come a long and undesirable way. And their miserable decisions during races have been a pressing concern for years. And to put an end to that, Team Principal Frederic Vasseur is going all out in restructuring the entire team.
When he replaced the under-fire Mattia Binotto at the beginning of 2023, Vasseur brought a certain promise to the team – a promise of changing the obvious problems that were plaguing the team for too long. And he made a commanding statement saying that the management was poor and there was a lack of accountability. And he’s stood by his promise that should finally solve Charles Leclerc and Co.’s misery.
Funoanalisitecnica explained how the French Team Principal is changing the face of the team management. “The great architects who are trying to define this model in the shadows are John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna who have identified Frédéric Vasseur as the trainer who must create the right amalgam to make everything work. The French, calmly, not without some physiological difficulties, but with the confidence to hit the target, is creating that axis we wrote about at the beginning.”

“The search for technical figures of depth continues (the signing of Loic Serra seems imminent), as well as the internal reorganization continues with the promotion of Diego Ioverno who has taken the place of Laurent Mekies, and the stabilization of the strategic sector entrusted to Ravin Jain. At the top of this line composed of heterogeneous professionals that must be harmonized by Vasseur is the finalizer. Number nine, the one who throws her in and wins games.”
Vasseur is not just changing the negatives and putting an end to repetitive flaws. He is putting in an all-around effort to appreciate the positives that already exist.

The Belgian GP gave quite a mixed feeling to the Maranello outfit. On one hand, Carlos Sainz was forced to retire his SF-23 after a Lap 1 collision. On the other, Charles Leclerc put up a good fight and secured P3, getting Ferrari their 3rd podium of the season. And Vasseur believes that the team has taken a step forward.
Vasseur said, “We made the right strategy calls and all the pit stops went well. Overall, therefore, I think we have made a step forward and we must start off from this point when we are back on track. Because only with this attitude can we aim to beat our closest rivals.”

The only matter of concern in that statement is that he is aiming to overpower the closest rivals rather than the best ones. But maybe that’s where progress starts. And it goes with the saying, How do you eat an elephant? – One bite at a time.
