The complicated and harsh economics of F1 means many teams have to opt for a pay driver. Let’s just say not all pay drivers live up to the standard of becoming an F1 champion. However, Lawrence Stroll did the unthinkable and bought the ownership of a team for his son and backed the team with a $250,000,000 investment. Despite the constant nepotism allegations, a recent revelation of an observation dismisses these allegations. What were these observations?

Many eyes have been raised on Lance Stroll and his driving skills. Up until the Spanish GP, Fernando Alonso beat Lance Stroll in every race of the year. However, at the Spanish GP, the Canadian managed to finish ahead of his teammate for the first time this season. Yet, Lance Stroll only has 35 points compared to Fernando Alonso’s 99. Some speculate that the Billionaire’s son has an eternal seat in F1 due to his father owning the team.

However, people always tend to forget all the good performances that Lance Stroll has strung together. The pole in the 2020 Turkish GP in struggling wet conditions and finishing in points during the Bahrain GP this year with broken wrists are perfect examples of Lance Stroll being a good driver. Beitske Visser also suggested that Stroll has the advantage of having his dad own the team, but none of it takes away from the fact that he is a seriously good driver and has won races in junior categories.

According to F1Maximaal.nl, Beitske Visser said, “Of course, you won’t be a world champion if you’re a pancake. Alonso is certainly an extremely good driver, and Lance (Stroll, ed.) of course has his father’s advantage, but he’s also just won games in junior categories, so Lance is certainly not a bad driver either. Hopefully, his home race can help him a bit and he can achieve a good result.”

The Aston Martin driver sounded excited about his home race after the Spanish GP during the post-race radio with the team. The start to Stroll’s Spanish GP was great as he got into podium places but dropped down due to tire degradation. Being aware of Mercedes and Ferrari’s pace, the Canadian still believes that it’s possible for them to get on the podium in Montreal.

According to racefans.net, Lance Stroll said, “I thought it would be possible when we settled into third [in Spain] but we just didn’t have the pace. If we put it all together and have a good pace, it’s possible. If Mercedes does what they did again, and Ferrari and Red Bull, it will be tough. So we have to definitely work on some stuff and come back stronger.”
