Mclaren F1 had a poor start this season. Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris are struggling with the new car, but the Honey Badger is still sticking by his team. The Aussie has backed his team and even claimed that McLaren can still win races.

The Honey Badger is in his 30s and he might not have many seasons ahead of him. Ricciardo joined Mclaren last season after his two-season long not-so-successful stint with Renault. He joined the Papaya team, hoping to compete at the front and even win a championship.

However, Ricciardo suffered in most of the 2021 season, although he helped the team win the Monza race. The 32-year-old began the 2022 season with a lot of positivity to turn this year for himself. But he had a poor start this season, finishing D14 in the Bahrain race and retiring from the race in Jeddah.

Daniel Ricciardo not giving up on McLaren

The Aussie is struggling with the new 2022 challenger MCL36. However, he’s not alone as his teammate Lando Norris is also experiencing the same fate. The young Brit finished P15 in Bahrain but bagged the first points for the team in the Jeddah race, finishing seventh. Even after the poor start, Ricciardo is backing his team and hoping McLaren to get at the front and even win races this season.

Ricciardo said, “But without getting ahead [of ourselves], if we were to come and win a race at some point this year, I wouldn’t actually be surprised because I still believe in the team and the process we have in place and the people we have in place to get the job done.”

The new regulations are weighing heavily on the Woking-based team. They are suffering to even fight for the midfield where they have been dominating in the past few years. However, the disappointing start isn’t breaking the McLaren duo as they are trying their best to improve.
