Fernando Alonso recently explained his thought process about records while giving a reference to Lewis Hamilton. The Spaniard’s explanation put a dent in Max Verstappen’s hopes and burst his bubble of fantasy despite the fact that the Red Bull driver is significantly younger than Alonso and has already won as many championships as him.

Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are arguably the greatest drivers that Formula 1 has ever seen. Both drivers have a record-breaking 7 world drivers’ championship to their name, which looks infinitely difficult to beat. However, Max Verstappen is already being compared to these great drivers and has already won 2 titles. Red Bull looking forward to dominating the grid until the next rules change in 2026. Therefore, the Dutchman will be eager to add to his tally of titles.

Fernando Alonso in a video recently uploaded on youtube suggested that if a driver keeps racing for long enough, they’re bound to break records. The Spaniard explained that the record which matters the most is the total number of championships and that Schumacher and Hamilton’s record is probably out of reach for anyone. However, the ultimate goal should be to aim for breaking that record. Max Verstappen has already suggested that he may leave F1 at the end of his current Red Bull contract.

According to the video posted by Bang and Olufsen, Fernando Alonso said “I think if you keep racing long enough, you will start breaking records. What really matters is the record for most world championships. At the moment, that number of seven world titles from Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton is probably out of reach, but that should always be the ultimate goal.”

Verstappen’s intentions to quit F1 at the end of his current contract will not provide him enough time to beat Hamilton’s record. Additionally, if FIA continues with the sprint format, the Dutchman might leave the sport because of that as well. The 25-year-old recently expressed his concerns regarding the sprint format.

The 25-year-old is not the biggest fan of the sprint format and has openly accepted his disliking of the format. Verstappen recently suggested that he might not be around for a long time if FIA decides to make more changes to the sprint. The Dutchman suggests that it becomes very hectic for the team to prepare for the sprint alongside the race on Sunday. With the race calendar being bigger than ever, it will only get harder.

According to independent.co.uk, Max Verstappen said, “I hope there won’t be too many changes, otherwise I won’t be around for too long. I am not a fan of it at all. When we do all that kind of stuff, the weekend becomes very intense and we already do a lot of races. But it is not the right way to go about it.”
