In evaluating McLaren’s recent performance, Lando Norris has dismissed speculations about the MCL60’s significant one-second advantage over its predecessor. He acknowledges the team’s notable progress, attributing it to various factors beyond just upgrades. Norris emphasizes that the improvement wasn’t as dramatic as portrayed and clarifies that many initially competitive teams faltered in the last few Grand Prix races.

He pointed to teams like Aston Martin and Ferrari, which faced challenges in maintaining their early-season competitiveness. McLaren was able to capitalize on this situation and secure a more prominent position in the standings. However, Norris was quick to add that he doesn’t believe these teams have regressed; rather, circumstances and performance fluctuations have played a role in McLaren’s ascent.

Despite their initial expectations that the updates would allow them to compete on par with these teams, the reality surpassed their predictions. McLaren found themselves consistently ahead of their rivals in recent races, an unexpected but welcomed turn of events. It’s worth noting that the MCL60 while providing improvements, wasn’t the sole reason for McLaren’s newfound success. The team’s collective efforts, strategic decisions, and continuous development played crucial roles in their progress. As per FormulaPassion.it, Norris said:

“We have absolutely not gained that much, it is exaggerated, but the main aspect is that many teams that were competitive at the beginning of the season may not have been so in the last few GPs; if you look at the Aston Martins or the Ferraris, we somehow managed to take their place, but I don’t think they have taken a step back. We certainly didn’t expect to experience this situation, we thought the update would help us compete with these teams, but we’ve been ahead of them in the last few races.”

Moreover, McLaren’s drivers, including Norris himself, have displayed exceptional skill and determination, making the most out of their car’s potential. Norris’s consistent performances and strong finishes have significantly contributed to the team’s climb up the ranks. In addition to the team’s internal efforts, external circumstances, such as the fluctuations in other teams’ performances, have also shaped McLaren’s rise.

Lando Norris and his team, McLaren, are reveling in Ferrari’s misfortune as they make strides in the mid-field battle. During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz put up a decent performance, securing seventh and eighth places, respectively. While the race lacked major drama, Leclerc faced unexpected incidents during pit stops that affected his position.

Initially, both Leclerc and Sainz showed promising pace in Hungary, with Sainz impressively gaining positions on new Soft tires. However, trouble arose during Leclerc’s first pit stop due to a faulty wheel gun, causing a significant delay and pushing him down the order. Despite the setback, Leclerc fought back, and both drivers managed to hold onto sixth and seventh positions with consistent pace on Hard tires. Sainz, however, struggled with rear tire degradation during longer stints on Hards, allowing George Russell on fresher tires to overtake him for seventh place and challenge Leclerc.
